‘Mind Control And The Internet’

Image
The use of mental signals to move the cursor on screen is a huge step to merge man and machine. It is indeed a milestone in the field of BCI which can be used to help disabled or paralysed people. The example of Stephen Hawking is a signal to humanity that a paralysed person can still be so influential in the world based on his talent and intelligence. Considering the huge potential of man-machine merger, influential leaders like Elon Musk and Bryan Johnson are working to enhance human capabilities through brain computing interface. However, what about the privacy of human minds? If a human mind can move the cursor, what if a computer command influences the human mind? We have seen the concept of reverse-engineering and it can be exploited by scientists to make human subjects into their Guinea pigs. This thought is undoubtedly worrying and should be taken into consideration while investing into BCI.
